I have a 1975 Evinrude 115 V4 that is bogging down and cutting off when I try to take off. It idles fine and cranks fine. It just seem to have a problem when I try to gun it.
I have replaced spark plugs and fuel filters so far.
Also when I do get it to run wide open it seems to miss every few seconds. I am not sure if these problems are related.
Any ideas?

did you try pumping the fuel bulb when it was boggin down. have you check spark, compression, check fittings on fuel line for air leaks, are you running 6gal tanks or built in. when was the last time this engine was ran, and acted correctly. waiting for answers.

sounds like there are several problems or could be. carbs, fuel pump, coils, or power pack, linc n sinc. are you mechanically inclined as in working on the car , not being rude need to know your experience. you are also going to need a manual (brp evinrude, click english, parts & access. lower left literature. the follow prompts. to find your engine. get to know this book like you are going to be tested and the one with the hig score is going to get $10,000. the price to replace your engine. get back with us

Re: 1975 Evinrude 115 bogging down

I have ordered the manual. should have in a few days. I will be checking compression and spark tonight. Will let you know what happens. This was happening to the guy i bought this boat from and they replaced the power pack and that cleared the problem up for a while. Do you think the power pack could be bad again? Is there a test to check it?

Thanks

Bogging on excelleration has about a 99% chance of being caused by fouled carbs. Tear them down and do a thorough cleaning, rebuild with new carb kits. Do a search on here for "carb cleaning" there are at least one or more good threads on it.

getting good spark on all 4 cylendards. Also getting 110 compression on all 4 cylanders. I guess I will start the carb rebuild.
One thing I did notice is it is missing the Air Silencer Cover that covers the carbs. Could that be contributing to the problem?

not really, it's purpose is the cut down on the noise of the carbs, that's why it's called the air silencer.
