just like it says.. I tray to work the bugs out in the driveway with the muffs on but some times it wont shutoff. Start the motor let it run at idle for five or so minutes (idle little ruff but ok) when its warmed up and I give it some throttle it slowly climbs in rpm but not like it should. If i give it full throttle then back down rpms stay at high rpms and wont back down..can take the key out still runs, can pull the saftey shutoff still runs, can pull the spark plug boots still runs, turn the key to the on position and it shuts down.....whats up with that? also I notices that there seems to be a bit of fuel comming out of the carbs and dripping into the lower part of the housing below the carb what could that be from?

sorry it so long just want to go fishing.

thanks
CHris

it is call runaway dieseling and can ruin your engine, that is why you do not rev high on muffs. it can get so fast it will throw a rod, burn up a piston.. i would check compression before i do anything else. then i think you better post your problems and what you have done to this engine and it's history, before you blow it up.

Re: 2001 johnson 50 hp wont stop running

what about the fuel coming out of the carb?

what seem to be happening is when it out on the water it feels like it wont push the load of the boat. as soon as you put it at full throttle it starts to bogg down. I will try a compression test this weekend. regulat maint. has been preformed but the carb has neaver been rebuilt. this started the end of last summer(the bad running) oh almost forgot the problem started after they changed the gas tank because of a hole in the tank.

thanks for the help
Chris
