Re: OMC Outdrive, Witch one do I have
With a manual and proper parts ID, you can look on ebay, check internet sights like this;

Or just call Steve Ryan at Ryans Marine in Portland Oregon and tell him what you have. Your drive is neither a 400 or 800. Those were numbers applied to the next two generations of Hydro-Mechanical and Mechanical shift drives.(starting 1978 til the Cobras)
Yours is a 1975 Electric Shift Stringer drive. You could have a low profile or a high profile drive. When they went to the cable shift drives they only had one profile but two different strengths of units.(400 & 800) He can tell you how to tell them apart but I believe the lower units are the same for either.
Steve is probably the most knowledgable OMC guy that you will find. People send him OMC drives from all over the country to repair. Even dealers ship him units to fix. He also sends parts out all over and if they are hard to find, he'll find them if they exist.
If you call him, tell him that Gyro Gearloose suggested you call. 503 282 8807
