Hello, I am looking to buy a new boat. I live in Florida on the coast. I was wondering if anyone knows about Regal cruisers in the 26' range. I was talking to my neighbor about getting this size of boat and I was advised their was no reason to buy such a big boat and to get a 20'. My neighbor also said Regals are not good boats. Any help would be great. Thanks for your time and input.

I think you will find plenty of people who like and dont like regal for no real reason :)

I have a great day on the water with a 20' boat i would have a great day on the water with a 26' boat at about 5 times the cost

It comes down to what your comfortable spending for a day on the water

If its your first boat its really way to big

think you need to come up with a list of what you want to do in the boat, like impress people. or just a quiet cruise on the water, inland crusing, or ocean, fishing, skiing, tubing. overnite cruises, how many people, kids, etc.. list what you want then we can give you our suggestions.

Re: New Boat hunt

I was in the navy about 30 years ago but this would be my first boat I have bought. I intend on using it in the ocean/intercoastal. I want a boat which I can take over to the Bahamahs or down to the keys. I also would like the boat to be able to have my son ski or wakeboard off of. My son would also like to fish off of the boat from time to time.

If you want to 'cruise' the intercoastal and maybe run to the Bahamas, yes you'll want the bigger boat.

That said... will the prospect of a $500 gas bill every couple days make a difference in your use of the boat?

If I was buying any mid-size or bigger boat I'd be getting one of the new generation diesels. The have higher up-front costs, but at tomorrows fuel prices, the greater economy will pay off big time. Even with diesel, it still ain't cheap to run a big boat at speed.

Re: New Boat hunt

you asking a big order. big enough for open water, and ski behind. consider a gov't auction for a siezed drug boat.

you need 2 boats, one to ski with and one to cruise/fish with.

if you must ski or do watersports, i'd look at 22-24' deck boats. will handle watersports and still allow you to cruise with a lot of people.

if you can give up the watersports, go with a 28-30' cruiser or open fisherman. i'm currently looking at the 31' and 33' Tiara's for this very purpose.
