Hello
It looks like I am getting water in the trim pump reservoir.

What are the possible causes for this?

Thank you
Gabriel

I would like to flush the trim pump and it's lines.

What is the best way of doing that?

Thanks
Gabriel

Not sure of what you have yet. Do you have a serial number for the motor. Different pumps were used. Generally, remove or suck the oil out of the reservoir, loosen the lines at the pump and rams, collapse the cylinders, tighten it all back up, refill the reservoir and work the trim up and down. If the oil is already milky, this is a waste of time unless you fix the source of the leak. Check the lines, also where they enter the boat, and of course the rams themselves...

The only way I have found to get all the milky oil out of the reservoirs is to dissassemble the reservoir and clean it out with solvent. Put it back together fill it with oil and run it both directions without the lines hooked up and run clean oil through the pump. Let the oil squirt into a can or something. Then fix and clean the trim cylinders and hoses before hooking back up to the pump.

If you keep the boat in the water, the first thing I'd check is where the SS fittings screw into the cylinders. The cyls are aluminum & the SS fiitings set up a galvanic reaction. The threads get eaten up to the point where they leak a little bit of oil & then suck in water when moved in the opposite direction. I ended up getting 2 new trim cylinders (on 1988 boat also) - may be time for you too. Try ebasicpower.com for best prices.
