I started having this problem about a week ago. On take off, when the tilt is raised, the motor won't stay up. It's hard to get the boat to plane on take off. If the motor isn't under a load, I can raise the motor. The motor is a 1985 60HP Evirude with the stock power tilt/trim. I can't find the model number of the power trim motor.

Make sure your manual release valve is tight. It is located on the side of the mounting bracket recessed in an access hole.

Or, the system is low on fluid.

You add the flud with the engine all the way up and by removing the large head slotted screw on the reservoir.

Add fluid and cycle the engine up/down a couple times to bleed out the air.

All the way up, are you sure? I was told by someone (not in this forum) the fluid should be level with that screw hole when the engine is all the way down.

Djohns19 is correct, All the way down means the system is under full pressure. Make sure the engine is tilted all the way up then take the plug out.

So, I tilt the engine all the way up, pull out the slotted screw, fill the oil till it is full to that slotted screw hole, put the screw back in and power the tilt up and down to bleed it. Is there any other screw I need to loosen to let air out while I'm cycling it up and down? Sorry, first boat, I don't want to screw anything up.

Well I filled up the resevoir with oil, everything seems to be working good, but I'll have to try it in the water. I did notice I have a leak in the hydraulic cylinder, not the one that does the lifting, the other one, I don't know what it is called. It's leaking on the elbow that goes into the cylinder. It looks like someone had tried to fix it with teflon tape. Is there supposed to be a seal that goes in there?
