I have a 1976 1500 merc 150 hp that is pushing a 16.5 foot fiberglass ski boat.

Does anyone know what pitch of prop it might have come with? I'm thinking a 17 or 19, but I really don't Know.

I'm having trouble with my holeshot when I load the boat with people. Right now its running a 21

It really doesn't matter what prop came with the motor when it was new -- if one even did. You need the right prop for your application. I think you're on the right track though. While a 21 might be right for cruising (depends on your top rpms) a 19 would, obviously, get a load up quicker. And if you have a loaded boat and still pull water toys a 17 might even be easier on the motor.

And don't forget -- all props of a given pitch are not created equal.
