Folks
My friend has a 2000 four cycle 40hp mercury on a 19 foot pontoon. The boat was purchased new in 2001. From the day of delivery the 40 hp has had the following symptoms.
1. Starts fine - idles fine
2. @ 1/2 throttle - motor wants to die - can jiggle the throttle forward and back 2 or 3 times to get past the "die" part. After getting past the "die" part - the motor runs to wide open throttle very well.
3. When pulling back on the the throttle @ roughly the same 1/2 throttle area - the motor stops running/quits completely - no hesitation - just quits.
The motor has been to dealers numerous times - carbs have been adjusted - when in a no-load condition the motor runs fine....my friend is 72 years young - and frankly at his wits end (as is anyone else is that has worked on this motor) - can anyone help?
thanks - your help is much appreciated.
Byron
