I have taken the leg off to check the water pump and now i cant get it to go in any gear except forward. It starts in forward gear and stays there after shifting with the controls nothing changes. Retried again and again putting theshaft in different positions and always goes forwards only.any help would be appreciated thanks

drop lower again, turn drive shaft while turning shift shaft . find neutral, now put power head in neutral, rotate flywheel to line up drive shaft.

when I turn the shift shaft it seems to never find neutral unless you get to one side or the other and force it. Would this be neutral and if so where would reverce be cause the shift shaft turns easally 3/4 of a turn then tight but forcing it a little more seems like neutral?this did shift fine before i took the leg off and took everything around the waterpump off for cleaning. Thanks Russ.

when turning the shift shaft you have to turn the prop, there is a very small space for neutral, and reverse, and a bout 3/4 turn for forward.
