DT30 CDI Unit

I am told I need a CDI unit. Boat fires up and runs fine. After running for 10 minutes or so and you go to idle...it dies and can't restart for awhile. It is not overheating and the carb has been cleaned. I either need a new CDI or a second opinion and I am tired of throwing of spending money. Does anyone have a source for a CDI for a 1986 DT 30 CDI Unit

Re: DT30 CDI Unit

You don't need a new CDI unit .... they are very expensive and hardly ever go bad .... who told you that you need a new one? Have you checked that your fuel tank has proper ventilation at the fuel tank? It sounds like you have a fuel restriction problem to a certain point, what you described has nothing to do with a CDI unit ...... sounds like someone wants to make money out of you as the CDI unit is probably the most expensive part on a 30hp suzuki ...

Thanks. I have checked the venting to the point of running with the cap off. Still shuts down after a run. I was told it was possibly overheating. Even though it is kicking plenty of water and I replaced the pump. I can keep my hand on the head for quite some time after a run. It seems like a fuel problem but I can't isolate it.

just check the thermostat as well, but to what I know it sounds like a fuel restriction ....

I have searched for a Thermostat but can't see one in any documentation that I have or see online?

Well! I decided that I had to keep the family and see if the cdi unit was it. $220 plus tax at the shop and just threw it on the boat and.....it works! The must fail after all.

Hi, I'm looking for a CDI unit for a DT25 too, where did you buy yours for that price? At brownspoint.com it seems to cost over $600! Thanks a lot

Ok, I'm going to check a couple of components on my dt25 to be sure it's a CDI unit problem... I'll let you know! Thanks. Bye

I think I should try another CDI unit on my DT25 3 cyl, 1991: Redbolt, did you find the one you were talking about? I sent you a PM, but it seems not read yet. Could you let me know how we can arrange the shippment and payment? Thanks a lot.

your not the only one to get a dodgy CDI but you were lucky on price mine for my DT100 cost £720 or $1460 and took a month to diagnose as I said in my post (see DT100 waterflow ) who says CDI,s dont go wrong!

Re: DT30 CDI Unit

Any chance you know of a source for another CDI? I'm thinking my motor requires this part as it drops a cylender (#3 i think) when I try to push more than Idle. This is supposedly the symptom of a bad CDI. Specifically it is the CDI thinking that there is a problem, but we haven't been able to find a list of things to check that would make it think so...

Anyone know what we should be looking at here?
