MY KIDS GOT THIS BOAT FOR THEIR GOOD GRADES.FIRST THE BLACK BOX THAT DRIVES THE IGNITION COIL WAS BAD ,IT WAS REPLACED AND THE BOAT WORK FOR ONE DAY .IT REFUSED TO START THE NEXT DAY,BATTERY DIED AFTER TRYING TO START ON SECOND TIME THE KEY WAS TURNED .AFTER RECHARGING THE BATTERY IT STILL REFUSED TO START.LOOKS LIKE A SMALL VOLTAGE IS GOING INTO THE IGNITION COIL FROM THE BLACK BOX ,BUT CANNOT BE MEASURED WITH A DVM.ANY WHERE I CAN GET A SERVICE / REPAIR MANUAL EVEN ON LINE . I WOULD RELLY LIKE TO TAKE MY KIDS OUT AGAIN ON THE H2O BUT I AM ON A TIGHT BUDGET.I AM PRETTY GOOD AT FIXING THINGS MYSELF.

1976. Doubt you will find a free download manual. chrysler crew sells them but they cost around 25 dollars.

See the bolts on the transom thats holding the motor on? Well make sure ur boats in the water and undo those bolts and pull them out and give the motor a good ol' kick with ur big boot. It should fall right in and make a splash. (Thats a good siign it means its a better ancor than boat motor Just remeber if you are in the middle of the lake to bring a paddle to get back.

Sorry above is for all the chrysler motor owners ;) First off spend the $25 and buy the manual it will be the best 25 bucks u spend on that motor. But What i think is that you have a bad powerpack and there expensive and hard to come by... so you might wanna take my advice above ;)

MY KIDS GOT THIS BOAT FOR THEIR GOOD GRADES......

Sounds like you punished them for their good grades. :( Sorry, couldn't resist.

If you can get it straightened out, it can be a good motor.

Check compression.
Check spark.
Go from there.

Re: '78 CHRYSLER 105 hp OUTBOARD MOTOR

Well balram if you got this boat for free ... why dont you just bring it to a dealer and let em put it back in shape ... once in good running condition all those Chrysler motors need is some xtra TLC (tender loving care) and it will be faithfull in giving you good smooth running time.

On a Chrysler I would say 105 = 85-90 with other brands ... but so what ?? Had a 90 hp ... loved it. trouble free ... but I pamper.

Another thing that will help a Chrysler is NOT to run at Wot for long period of time ... gun it wot to plane then reduce a notch ... just enough for the wot sound to reduce a bit. They are more fragile ... but once you know that ... its up to you.

Cheers.

Re: '78 CHRYSLER 105 hp OUTBOARD MOTOR

O k ...I don't know what happened but I had just done a script and was about to send it and the screen changed now Icannot find it .So hereI go all over again .
Hey mates ! I bought the manual and found out that the timming belt is very slack causing it to slip and jump out of timming .I cannot seem to find any belt tension adjust. As such I 've decided tho replace it .Could any of you guys say where I would be able to pick one up (motor parts store etc.)
Also I will need to have a flywheel Puller for a one time job would I be able to get one at a "rent - a -tool "shop?
Finally any tips , advice and suggestion on outboard flywheel removal and timming belt replacement would be highly appreciated (i've never done one of this before )

You may want to recheck that model number. 1059HE is a magna system and does not have a distributor. Mercury sells the distributor belt part number is 57-F85311 and is $27. It goes on the model 1059HF which is a distributor model chrysler.

hi Captain ! I am getting confused now.The name plate on my engine does say "1059 HE and it was manufactured ar Hartford Wiscosin USA.The front of the engine on the cover ( bonnet / hood) says Chrysler MagnapoweriNSIDE IT HAS 4 CYLINDERS , 1 IGNITION COIL , 1 BLACK BOX (that drives the ignition coil ) and 1 DISTRIBUTOR that is linked to the flywheel by a belt.So plese help me to understand what type of motor i,ve got .

Balram, As mentioned earlier by Eurolarva, check out the Chrysler Crew website for lots of info on your particular motor. They have a lot of resources to parts and manuals. The link is: www.geocities.com/thechryslercrew/
They have a thursday night live chat with other Chrysler boat owners also. Good luck.
