Trouble finding correct carb rebuild kit

Hello all

I bought 3 carb rebuild kits for my 1988 Johnson 70HP (3 cyl). When I opened one of them, I found out that I got an incorrect kit. It does not match the carburetor I have. After looking through my Clymer's manual, it seems to match a carb model for an older model 70HP motor. I was disappointed at this because the kit that I bought (iBoats# 18-7222) was the one that, according to the iBoats part finder, matched my engine.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

That's the right kit for a 1988 70. What's not right about the kit?

Actually you can use a Sierra 18-7042 also.

Sometimes they make the kits for several different varieties of motors. If there are extra parts, discard them. If it's totally wrong, then iboats needs to know...

EDIT: I just looked up a couple other sites and that is also the kit they recommend for your motor...

All right, thanks. That's what I was concerned about...there are too many extra parts. And there are some that dont exist, for example the slow speed needle valve....at least not the type shown in the schematic. Also, the jet diameters were drastically different...will this have an effect?

What jets? There shouldn't be any jets in the kit. There should be a needle & seat though.

That's the one I have...one of the gaskets included is useless.

That gasket in the lower left is for a newer carb than yours. When you say the jets are different are you talking about the seat?
