Parts swap 1982 140hp to 1996 112spl??

Are the parts (power head, electrconics, lower unit, trim/tilt, etc) interchangeable from a 1982 140 crossflow to a 1996 112spl crossflow? Thanks

They are basically the same motor (very basically). There are differences but most things are interchangable but you may need to make modifications or change complete assemblys rather than components. The engine wiring harness to boat harness connections were changed in 95.

Sorry for the repeat DHadley, I am not use to this new format.

There is a motor in the local area for sale that "ran a year ago" that I would like to have parts for. The specific parts I would be interested are the big ticket items (lower unit, block, trim assembly, heads, power pack, etc) and also smaller items such as starter, fairings, flywheel, stator, etc. The guy is selling it for $300.00 and if this is in relatively solid condition, I would be interested in keeping it in the shed for parts. Is this something you would suggest?? Thanks for your time!!

That stuff will work and is a solid investment from your standpoint. I assume the 82 is for sale and you have the 96. The lower unit alone is worth 300 bucks.

DHadley.....one more question. The seller provided the P/N and S/N (Model E140TRLCNB Serial # J0145273) for the motor. Is this a 1982 140hp???
