1970 Johnson 100hp need parts info

I have a 1970 johnson 100hp electric shift. the sliding cluch was destroyed by a previous owner somewhere down the line before I came across it.Anyways I have looked around the net trying find the gear set but I can't seem to find the year and hp together at any of them. Also if anybody knows the ohm's that the shift solenoids should have I would appreciate any help on this or if there is a different gear set i could install instead. Thanks

I also looked at the site ishopmarine.com posted by tschamp20 and it only showed 100hp for 1971.I'm starting to wonder if there was a title mix up on the year somewhere in the past.

look on the transom clasp for a rectangular plate with a model and serial number on it. If that is missing, then look on the block. There should be a round metal plug in the block with a model number on it.

Assuming that you really do have a 100hp motor, these are the numbers you will want to find. I think you have found a serial number.

100 HP (Rude)

Year Model-Nr.
1966 100683
100693

1967 100782
100783

1968 100882
100883

1971 100193

1972 100293

1979 100990

100993
100999

100 HP (Johnson)

Year Model-Nr.
1966 V4ML-12

1967 V4T-V4TL-13
V4TL-13

1968 V4T-V4TL-14
V4TL-14

1971 100ESL71

1972 100ESL72

1979 100ML79
100TLR79
100TXLR79

Re: 1970 Johnson 100hp need parts info

Pony i'm assuming that everything is correct. The motor cover say's johnson 100 and the title say's the same, just 1970 instead of 71 though. Also you were right on that number being a serial number, thats the same one on the title. Any idea where I would find any of the other numbers. Thanks Also is there any chance of different covers fitting different motors exc.

Re: 1970 Johnson 100hp need parts info

A lot of times boats and motors will vary by a year or two, even when originally rigged by a dealer. I'm guessing the boat is a 70, and the motor a 71. Was the number you found the only thing on that plug? If you still have a tag on the transom clasp, it will have both model and serial number on it. I dont know if its even possible to verify a year strictly by serial number on an OMC.

I saw where the tag was oringinally on the clasp ( was ) and no there wasn't any thing else on the plug.I'm starting to think the same thing as you, that it's a 71.
Thanks again for all the help Pony.
P.S. is there much difference between the A and the C models.
