RIght now I have a 1988 115 (I-6) Mariner on my Fisher aluminum bass boat equipped with a 19" QSS prop #48 72762 A5 19. 13.25 diameter.

Who makes this type prop in 17" (new manufacture) and who make a good cupped 17" ? All the props on the market are getting confusing. Between Apollo Ballistic and others it is seeming like a crap shoot to find the right one. I know that QSS is no longer made. Is there a good 4 blade 17" on the market?

The boat is struggling to hold the 5200 rpms that it turns and I want it to be capable of revving higher so 5200 will not be as hard on it.

Re: walleyehed DHadley and our local prop experts

the p/n you give is listed as a 13-1/4X19P cupped SS, and has been superseeded to a 16990A36 and is now a Laser II in 20P.
A 4-bld will really slow you down unless a high-quality 4-bld wheel is used and engine raised to maximum efficiency, and I still don't think it will be as fast as a good 3-bld.
You are very right on the fact that so many prop manufacturers are coming with new designs, and I'm trying to stay on top of most of them.....this year alone, has been crazy with new designs..
One I might take a look into would be a Stiletto...hard to beat, period.
If you want to stay with Merc, I'd look seriously at an Enertia. I think the price will shell-shock most, but the numbers this prop produced for me made me take a double look, several times to see if I was reading my gauges correctly.
If a guy could get a 19 to run in the 5500+ range by changing heigth or adding set-back, that would be best.
If we need to go to a 17, we can always send a precision prop (stiletto, Turbo) back and have them tweak it to fit your specs. we would be adding efficiency to the prop to get the RPM down, Only if it was over 5900-6000. The I6 likes 5800, and the one thing (mistake) we don't want to make, is get in a position where we need to remove cup (efficiency) to get the R's UP.
Hope in some way this helps.
Dhadley may have some better Ideas...see what he thinks tomorrow...

Re: walleyehed DHadley and our local prop experts

I have the set up about perfect. The motor is high and trimmed out I am at 10 PSI for water pressure. I do not want to go the jack plate route. Hopefully Dhadley will add a few pieces to this puzzle.

Thanks!

If you are willing to spend the bucks and if the Enertia will fit your (older) propshaft it comes in 17" or 18" sizes.

The 18" might be perfect for you. Maybe you could find a demo prop dealser to let you try it... Just a thought.

Hey Bob, I didn't see any PM's. Anyway, I'd recommend the same as Kenny, a Stiletto especially if you can find one to try.

Are you OK with 10 lbs water pressure?

BTW -- dhadley50@aol if you want to..............
