Im in the process of decking my boat. I'm using marine grade plywood and I will be putting carpet over that. Any suggestions on what paint to use to seal would be appreciated. I saw an Epoxy paint at Lowe's but it was for concrete only. They had an exterior porch paint but Im not sure that will work...

You might want to try Pettit clear plywood sealer.

Im putting the decking on an aluminum boat but the
parts that Im painting will only be plywood and wood 2 x 4's decking material. I will be painting the plywood and then putting carpet over the top of that.

Dennis, We would normally use polyester or epoxy resin to seal the plywood. It will work much better than paint, and the polyester resin can be had for paint price or so. You will need to mix the correct amount of hardner with either resin, and then apply it without hesitation. I recommend two coats. Now use some marine carpet installation mastic, or some oil-based contact cement to install the carpet.

You can also use CPES from
www.rotdoc.com to seal the plywood before painting. It will penetrate into the end grain of the plywood which is where the rot often starts. Don't forget to drill all the mounting holes in the wood floor first, then seal it with CPES. Wear a fume respirator, it is evil smelling stuff.
