Re: can I add a telltale

You should be able to tap into the exhaust cover .

If you going to do this, I'd install a pressure guage instead ,or, if you have to have it , both.

The guage will save your neck, and give you MUCH better info. , as to water pump condition.

The tell-tale just shows that its pumping but not , if its getting weak , worn , etc.

Like the guage does.

There are many variables, as to your press. readings. ie: length of tubing, how its routed, guage etc.

The main thing is to try to run the tubing to guage , with the least amount of bends , and as level as possible .

Though , it usually will be slightly , up hill.

As long as you get a reading that increases with rpm's your , OK.

You'll want to monitor the readings at various rpm's up to WOT.

Then just keep an eye on it for any pressure changes.

ie: if you run alot at say 4500 rpm's , note the pressure at said rpms.

Then you'll notice any change.

Then you can determine the cause.

For reference my 115 hp, at 5600 rpm's has 18lbs. press.

At idle 900 - 1000 rpm's , 7-8 lbs.

Re: can I add a telltale

i noticed in the diagram that they are using a T you would not want to run a gauge and a telltail, just a gauge correct? i am assuming the gauge would read very low if at all with both.. thanks

Re: can I add a telltale

I've never tried , to have both.

But, I have disconnected, the tell tale.

And the guage came with a "t", why I dont know.

I just used one leg for guage, and installed a S/S screw , coated with gasket sealer , into a piece of tubing ,with a clamp to close it off.

The other end clamped to "T".

An elbow would save time, and the extra connections.

Be very carefull, that the connections, are good and tight.

Water spraying around inside cowling can cause all kinds of troubles.
