Can anyone recommend the best, or at least, a good prop pitch for my 1958 Evinrude Lark. It's on a 14' Dorsett runabout and ususally runs with two people on board. The diameter of the current prop is 10", but I don't know how to measure the pitch.
Your prop size should be marked on the prop somewhere. Mine is moulded on one of the blades near the hub.
I have a 1967, 40 hp Johnson on a 15' alum. runabout. It is a 10 1/2" dia. X 12" pitch.
If your prop is still usable run your boat at WOT and check your RPM. It should be close to your max. RPM. If the motor is running good & the RPM is lower than your max. RPM you need less pitch. If your RPM is too high go with more pitch.
With out more info not sure what your max. RPM should be but suspect 4500 RPM if it is a 1957-59 model.
we used a 12" pitch most of the time and sometimes an 11 1/2" pitch on a 14' Skagit fiberglass boat with a 1963 40hp. The 12 inch was originally on a 57 35hp on a 14ft wood boat I tried a 13 1/4"(standard pitch) but it went slower than with the smaller wheels.
