Finally got a new Compaq desktop computer with win xp.

I had it on the internet via dial up the first day.

Since then I have copied old files from the old computer to new, istalled printer drivers, etc.

Now the dial up no longer will download anything. It will dial, connect, password accepted, etc. and everythng looks like it should work, but it always give the "page cannot be displayed" in IE.

To repeate, I am connected, but I cannot get any webpages to come up.

I tried XP system restore to the day I got the machine and it still has the same problem.

Any suggestions.

One other thing that might be related. I was using direct cable connection via parallel cable to transfer files from old to new computer. I have completly removed this connection from my connections.

I just tried winsock xp repair and that didnt fix the problem.

I compared 100% of all the settings with my laptop and everything is identical. Laptop works, desktop doesnt.

Bob, you are the man.

I thought I didnt have Norton installed, but it had snuck itself on there and had everything messed up.

Working now.

Thanks a ton, just wasted all morning trying to fix it.
