I just purchased a Nice Wellcraft with an older Suzuki 2 stroke motor . It is a 175 hp . The motor doesnt like to idle along real well but will run like a scalded dog as soon as you open the throttle a little bit . It cuts off and sputters when trying to leave the dock or maneuver at slow speed ( under 1500 rpm ). I have replaced the sparkplugs . The compression is good around 115>120.
Anybody know the culprit? I am lost also what should the gap be set at for the plugs I do not have a manual. Thanks Lost in Beaufort.:/

set your idling switch on the cdi box up a bit ..... but it might be a good idea to clean your carbs and set you spark plug gaps, not sure what the gap must be, there should be a sticker on the engine cover that tells you what the gap should be ....

I have a 88 DT175 and the same thing was happening to me. I eventually rebuilt the carbs and now its fine. It will idle at 1K for 15 minutes or longer before you even hear a sputter. I have replaced all kinds of parts that some shops thought it was and it was the carbs. Rebuild them....get the kits online (if you cant find them get them from brownspoint.com) and the gap shoudl be 40. Hope this helps you.

Thank you for the help I am going to try the carb rebuild before I buy a new engine . It runs perfect above 1500 rpm like a scalded dog LOL. Have any idea where I can buy a lower unit housing mine has a crack in it? Thanks 8)
