I have a 1974 Lund aluminum boat. It is painted this hideous pale yellow that is faded or oxidized or something. It is also worn through in some areas. What is the best way to repaint it in some other color? And is their any way I could leave it bare aluminum?

I watched a guy paint an aluminum boat that turned out !!wow!!. What he did was sanded the thing down to bare aluminum then swerled it shot some clear on it and man it was nice. Try it with a piece of aluminum that boat looked good. He did a lot of samples with his swerel marks on scrap until he found the one he wanted. It looks like hell until you clear it.

Have you searched this forum? Alot of us have repainted aluminum boats. There is alot of info. If you wanted to leave it bare aluminum I believe you will have to wash in down with vinegar to etch it. Natural corrosion will take place and it will just get dull looking. If you polish it to a shine.... nothing will really stick to it paint wise such as a clearcoat.
