Hey!

Regarding your question in the other thread about kenneling your dogs..

We put our dog in the kennel at our vet a while back, and noticed a change in his personality. It was that point that we decided to never send him back there.

We then were turned onto Central Bark Doggy Daycare (www.centralbarkusa.com). We send our dog there once a week (about $18 per day) and it really is a good investment because his whole temperment has changed as well as he is getting a lot more exercise than he would traditionally get.

I would talk to your vet about local doggy daycare places that you could take them to.

Edit:
The person who started the Central Bark Franchise has a location in Ft. Lauderdale. I know that is about 127 miles or so from you; but if they are going to be kennelled for a week, It might be worth the trip. They usually have a $35 1-day "welcoming" day to make sure they are compatible with other dogs...

Re: Ping 12footer...

Thanks for the info, EE. Carol's surgery is still 5 months off, but that "welcoming day" you described is something they'll surely need. My oldest was adopted as a result of neglect and abuse from it's previous master...A real "peach" of a human being, he regularlly beat her with whatever was at hand. To this day, she could be completely relaxed on my lap, yet bolts when I pick up the remote. So she still doesn't do well around other men.
On the other hand, the puppy should be no problem, as she is fearless, has the run of the house, and loves everyone.
So I figured I best get started now, thus avoiding any last-minute problems.
Thanks again.

I second eeboater. We lodged our dog for a week and it too was changed. When we came to pick her up, she was being walked but her whole demeanor and body language was different...depressed...until she saw us. I won't do that to her again!

Check with some breeders. I can board my golden with the kennel we bought her from, but to be honest mom and dad, or my bros watch her almost all the time I need to have her watched.

Make sure if you are going to kennel your dog that they have their Kennel Cough shots.

Well our (my wife's actually) black lab spend a good deal of time in "doggie day care". We pre-buy the days and use them when we are both at work. Fantastic people and the dog comes home exhausted from all the playing. It was very good for his social skills with other dogs too.

The latest trick is to allow him to eat corn off the cob. We leave him a row or 2 and he loves it!

Pointer, stop posting those photos.

In the middle of the party, it takes a nap.

When a bear wanders into your campsite, it doesn't even care.
Talk about worthless. :D :)
