Re: steering yoke loose

If your talking about where the spindle/steering arm connects to the steering fork (thru the transom), that is a splined fit. It does have a pinching bolt that may be able to be tightened but if the splines are worn it probably wont help much if any

try the "pinch" bolt first but its usually worn bushes. if you are mechanically inclined they are not difficult to change. it does require removal of the top box.

Re: steering yoke loose

I'm refering to where the yoke goes thru the transom it has play in it. not where it attaches to the steering or helmet.
Thanks

Re: steering yoke loose

i think i know what you are talking about....

just to check; are you talking about where the steering fork connects to the steering arm inside the boat? it connects to like a pitman arm?

if that is the case i just had that same problem. the bolt that is made to tighten up that "pitman arm" is not strong enought to do the job. after i broke the bolt i swapped it out for a grade 8 bolt and that still wasnt enough. once i realized that the "pitman arm" was tapered on the inside, i decided to take it to a machine shop and have them squeeze the hole more closed. it took three tries at the machine shop (2 tons, 4 tons, and finally 10 tons)to get it tight enough. when i got back home i pushed the spline of the fork back up into the pitman arm, and it stayed

did that make sense??

I don't think we are talking about the same thing. The steering yoke (steering fork) where it goes in thru the transom I saw in a diagram it has bushings but could see if there was any bolt or nut to tighten it. not where it connects to the steering arm.
thanks

Re: steering yoke loose

Describe the slack. Vertical (up and down), horozonal (side to side or front to rear) ?
