1985 Mercruiser Chevy Small Block V8 5.0L 200hp 2bbl.

Just wondering what octane level of gas these were made to run on and if higher octane helps, hurts, or makes no difference?

Also, can I fill it up at a regular gas station or do they put ethanol, etc in there that isn't for an older engine? Is the gas at the Marinas any different than what I put in my car?

89 or higher octane. With the higher octane you probably won't notice anything different except the balance on your monthly bank statement. :^

If there is ethanol or alcohol in the fuel, it will state that on the fuel pumps.

This is rarely true anymore...most states have eliminated their laws regarding disclosure of ethanol at the pump.

Here's Mercruiser's recommendations on fuel:

Short summary: 87 octane is fine for your 1985 motor, but without ethanol, and they recommend a valve lubricant be added.

And here's everythign they have to say about Ethanol in fuel:
