idles great, forward fast is great, problem is just when it comes off of idle and shifting to forward and when it is put into reverse, it doesnt always climb in rpm as well as it should. sometimes it wants to die in reverse. doesnt die when it is forward and cruising. always fresh gas and oil mix. 87 octane. acts perfect except when you shift it and give it throttle. any suggestions as to the problem. timing a little off? sometimes the reverse will not have the rpm and wants to die and other times it raises in rpm a little better but not exactly top notch like it should.

make sure the timer base isn't sticking...otherwise sounds like fouled carb(s)...

jtexas, thanks for the help.. I found that the timer base assembly seemed to be sticking somewhat, so I checked the pivot point and friction washer where the throttle and shift control levers mount. the pivot area was gummy, so I cleaned and lubed up properly, and the timer base assembly moved very well from what it was. I now am anxious to try it out on the lake. thanks.

If that doesn't solve your problem, decarb and afterwards keep some Sea Foam in your fuel tank. Won't be sorry.
