Rookie question - Is a 5.7 liter engine considered a short block or a long block?

Thank you in advance..

A short block is the block, crank, cam pistons and rods all assembled.
A long block is all of the above, plus the heads and sometimes an intake manifold. Usually includes the sheetmetal items (Timing cover & oil pan)
This is the same rather it's a 3.0L , 4.3, 5.7, 7.4.
The terms are not engine spacific.

I think he really meant to ask whether a 5.7L engine a "small block" vs "big block". It that was the question -- the 5.7 is a GM small block. If that's not what you meant to ask -- what Don said applies.

Silvertip,
You were right. I was reading over some recent posts and came across a reference to 5.7L small block and that got me thinking of my old post. When my post went to page two, I lost track of the replies. I am glad that you cleared up the small block and glad to learn from Don about short block and long block. It’s all coming together for me now.
Thank you - Everyone....
