Hi All,

Having just bought my first Bayliner(owned many smaller boats previous)I'm experiencing difficulty in finding a positive neural position on the gear shift control!?

Being more used to a single control lever on my previous crafts I would like to know if it is possible to adjust these units so that there is a positive indent when reaching the neutral position?

I do not want to go taking the dual control off at this stage if its going to be a pointless excersise and there is no internal adjustments possible.

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Sloppy gearshift question?(Bayliner 2556)

a LOT of the time the cable liner is worn and it results in to much play in the cable

If you remove the cable at the shift plate on the motor and push and pull it to measure the movement somebody should be able to get the max from the service manual

A new cable is usally the cure

Tommays,Thanks however I'm informed by the previous owner that all cables were renewed less than 12 months ago when boat underwent a complete overhaul......

So back to the question of adjustment within the control mechanism??

Thanks

I would repost in the I/O forum with more details about the control brand and type and year of your outdrive

There are no adjustments other than friction that i know of
