Exxon still has not paid Alaska $99,200,000 it owes from the Valdez, chump change when you are making $10,800,000,000 per quarter. Why do I think huge corp. are bad, add this to the list.

Also I am one post from proving I have way too much time on my hands.

Using the word "owe" a bit loosely, are we?

It seems to me that is a court ordered fine and costs of cleanup of a spill due to negigence.

It is pretty clear someone has to at least pay for the cleanup, or should the taxpayers foot the bill?

ExxonMobile paid jury-awarded damages of around $300,000,000 plus a few billion in the clean-up...which I'm not sure might be still on-going. The $99 million is judge-ordered punitive damages which are on appeal, hence, not yet "owed" in the strictest since of the word.

Note: I am not so much defending ExxonMobile so much as: A> nitpicking for sport, and 2> perpetuating a troll. Also for sport. Or if it wasn't already a troll, then call it "trollasizing a genuine topic".

Judgement is final not on appeal as I understand, do you have other information regarding the 99.2 million and exactly how would you classify allowing a known drunk with history to captain a ship.

Guess you probably oppose the drunk boat operating rules as well. No then why not for an oil tanker.

I say Exxon pay the money!!!!

He already said he wasn't supporting exxon. I didn't read anywhere in his post that he supported driving a boat/ship while drunk. What dumba$$ would support that?

I am pretty sure they have spent amounts vastly beyond the 99 million in question

Its up at 3b to 7Bn depending on were you read it so the 99m is a blip

And from what i read they keep finding more dammage and will keep billing them

So I wonder why they have not paid this 99.2 million?

Doesn't matter I quit buying Exxon when it happened and you see how it has wrecked that company.

Re: Exxon pay Alaska

Remember hearing about the ExxonMobil appeal on the news, hasn't been that recent though...did they lose? Anyways its not like they didn't clean up after themselves and pay a boatload of damages too. But if they lost then hell yes make 'em pay. Wouldn't it be funny if Alaska could freeze the bank accounts of ExxonMobil?

And for the record...I sometimes do miss the old days when Texans could exercise our God-given right to boat while intoxicated. A Saturday outing to Lake Lewisville usually cures that.

A large outfit like Exxon as any other mega staple comodity provider will simply pass their fine money off on the backs of the millions that consume their products by price adjustment.Be careful what you wish for. When companies pay fines and insurance companies bone up,it costs everyone.Still want to play? I don't.

I'm with ob, but to be clear, what else is a company supposed to do? They have to survive . . .

Re: Exxon pay Alaska

any idea how much money passes from ExxonMobil to Alaska on a regular basis...they own a fair percentage of the minerals extracted from there...$99 million is probably not even a rounding error on their petroleum tax payments to the state.
