You will find two identical looking slotted plugs on the gearcase, one above the other. The lower one [drain] and the upper one [vent] both need to be removed and the oil drained into a receptacle. The oil will drain more completely if the motor is in the running position. A large screwdriver, like 3/8, will help.

Once drained you will want to force the new gear oil in from the drain hole until it runs out of the vent hole. As soon as the oil appears, replace the vent plug first, then the drain plug.

Most folks here recommend that the plug washers be replaced to insure a watertight seal.

At best, this is a somewhat messy job so have a few old rags for a cleanup.

There are a couple ways to refill. Both involve filling from the bottom up. If you use the lub in a squeeze tube, insert the tube tightly into the bottom hole and sqeeze the tube until lub comes out the top. Quickly insert the TOP plug, then the bottom. You'll lose less lub that way. The second method involves buying a plunger pump that screws onto a quart lub bottle. It has a hose and a threaded adapter that screws into the bottom hole. Insert the adapter and pump away. Less mess and the pump is cheap. Buy it at Walmart or here on iBoats.

I don't know what year your 115 is, but you will need at least 27 oz. of high viscosity gear oil. The 1973-1977 gearcases take almost 30 ounces. Allow for spillage.

Use the term "expert" very loosely. "Experienced" might be a better term. d:)
