Re: 1995 force 40 hp charging&tac not working

Voltage rectifier is shot or is not wired in correctly. It sends the signal to the tach, and converts the AC voltage from the stator into DC voltage to charge the battery. 2 yellow wires from stator go into rectifier. Grey wire sends signal out to tach. Red wire send current back to battery.

It can happen from momentarily reversing the battery cables during installation. Or it could have happened for another reason all together.

Double check all wires to make sure they are connected in the right places.

Yes you should read voltage from the 2 yellows.

black/yelo wire FROM the switchbox, goes to "m"terminal on the ignition switch. It is used to ground out the ignition when the key is turned off.

2 yellows feed current from stator into rectifier.
gray sends signal to tach.
Red attaches to post on starter solenoid where the pos battery cable is attached.

I would suggest attaching the rectifier ground wire.

STATOR:

black ground wire
2 yellows to rectifier
blue to switchbox
red to switchbox
blue/white to switchbox
red/white to switchbox

It could be that the new stator is bad, you never know.

Disconnect stator wires and check resistance on the yellows.
What do you get for a reading?
