Proline vs. Mako

I am shopping for a 21 ft wac, and have pretty much narrowed it down to a Proline or Mako. Both seem like good quality boats. However, in looking at the specs, i noticed a hull weight for the Proline of 2500#, and for the Mako 3300#. This seems like quite a difference for boats of nearly identical size. Does anyone have any idea on why the mako weighs so much more?

A Mako is one of the best built boats you can buy.A Proline is a nice boat for the money. They are in a different class all together.Take a ride on both and you will see what I mean.

I had a Proline and one of my good fishing buddies had a Mako. Spent a lot of time on both. I would agree with the previous post, but not quite as strongly. The Mako is a better-built boat than the Proline, but at more cost. You need to decide where you want to be on the price/quality curve, but both are good boats.

Stepdad owned a 21' Proline WA before and that was one of the wettest WA boats that I had ever been in. In 3ft chop we would get sprayed. Maybe the newer hulls are better set up, but the older prolines soaked you. My 18ft bowrider kept me drier than his proline.

The Mako in my opinion will have the better hull design. What is the price difference that you are looking at. It depends on your budget and your priorities as to which one will suit you.

at 3300 lbs the mako is going to give you a better ride in a rough chop. both are good boats. look at how they are set up and the goodies, that a standard. then the wallet. go with your gut feeling. don't be 2 years down the road and wish you bought the other boat. get a test ride in one setup similar to what you want.
