Tex....Nothin ticks me off more than a repair manual that tells me to take somethin to an "authorized dealer" when it starts to get a little deep. Thats why we bought the book in the first place,,right? I have a regular evinrude book for my engine...lol so far it hasn't helped me much, but at least it does'nt tell me to take it to a dealer.
You can often find Factory Service manuals pretty cheap on ebay. The reprints are expensive. They are worth it though, and usually one time working on your own motor will cover the cost.
I have a clymers and seloc for my older motor...........a book covering 1-125hp can't be very specific. For my current motor I have a Factory manual and it is great. Got in on ebay for less than $15 and it had notes from the mechanic in it which have helped as well
I bought a clymers manual for my 86 E150XP when my motor went down. Then I bought the OMC manual via ken cook. I used the ken cook for the rebuild, but the clymers did have some useful info in it for the novice, such as explaining tools and such. At least I thought it did. I'm not upset I bought both.
Now I know why the factory book is $75 compaired to the others for $30. Now I just have to find one, or I will have to look to Ken Cook. At least I didn't waste 30 bucks. Thanks for the help guys!
OMC= Outboard Motor Corporation (Johnson and Evinrude)
Seriously rkersh409, take a look at ebay. You can't beat $20 for a factory service manual. That is including shipping. No need to spen $75 unless you have to.
Thanks guys I am watching 3 on ebay now. One is 10 bucks and used. The other two are new and are 50 bucks. I need the same manual as you tashasdaddy (503151).
OK, I'm confused. I've got, from Ken cook, supposedly a "complete set of 1995 service manuals" and there is not a 503151 in the group. I have a manual that lists the 175 60 degree but it's # is 507127.
I've been using Selocs for 18 years. I don't have any complaints yet. Then again, I have 30 years mechanical experience and a lot of stuffI've done is like second nature to me.
