i need to to figure a way to lift a engine without having someone to help me...... i have a garage with strong rafters...was thinking about using a "come along" or some type of pulley with cargo straps on the engine..think this will work? i dont have the lifting adapter thing that connects to the flywheel.

Do you want to lift the motor off the boat?
And put it on what?

Or do you want to lift the motor and put it on the boat?

The problem with straps is that the most secure place to put them will put them in the way when you try to lower the motor back down.

Old fashion block and tackle will work for you.

Most come alongs only work in one direction. So you can lift it up, but can't lower it back down slowly.

Get a rope big game hoist from Wally World or Cabellas, only 15 bucks. It'll hoist an outboard no problem, trust me on that, I've hoisted 1200lb elk with them. Does your powerhead have a lift ring?

I bought a lifting eye from Force that screws on the top of the shaft and use a chain hoist off the rafters.

Re: best way to lift a force engine?

Just a quick thought because of the weather conditions here i remove my 85hp almost every year.....I use a ratchet strap with every thing loose I get it tight enough that it almost lifts off of the transom....then I let the air out of the trailer tires it gives you about an inch more than you need......when replaceing it I position the motor and reinflat the tires...I do it myself! Just a thought...I hope this was helpful.
