Johnson carb initial settings…

Most references I’ve seen suggest 1 ½ turns out from fully seated as a starting point for low speed mixture setting. I have a 130 HP 2000 Johnson Oceanrunner that is running lean “lean sneeze” then dies. I carefully counted how far out the mixture screws were set on each of the 4 plastic carbs. They were set anywhere between 4 ¼ to 4 ½ turns out from fully seated. I’m now set to around 5 to 5 ½ turns out & it seems like she doesn’t sneeze as much. Throttle response seems pretty good. Any suggestions on how these carbs should be initially set and adjusted? Thanks!

welcome to Iboats
how long has it been since the carbs were removed cleaned out and rebuilt. It may be time sounds like they are a bit plugged up. most carbs set at 1.5 turns and don't take much to tune then in. also has it been rejetted maybe for another elevation?

I'm sure sure about the 130 but the 200 and 225 are 5 turns out according to the OEM manual

Thanks still getting adjusted to posting on the forum. Carbs were cleaned about a year and a half ago & drained at that time. Bought the engine new in 1999 so jets should all be stock. Engine won't even come close to running at 1 1/2 turns.

Seahunter, I do believe they use the same carbs on the 200's. So maybe 5 + turns isn't totally out of whack...
