I have an old chrysler 16 ft. runabout that i have been rebuilding. I know it has a false fibreglass floor. My question, can i expect that there is water between the floor and bottom of the boat? If there is how do i remove it? Should i cut a small hole somewhere to check? There is no drain below the floor. Thanks.

7/8 inch round hole so you can put a plug in it. hollow out a small area below the deck so the water if any has a place to gather.

I had a boat once like that. It did have a very small drain thru the transom. Very troublesome as it would get considerable water in it after only 2 or 3 excursions.

Sold the boat!

Most likely there is water under the floor. If it has no place to escape, there is likely rot to accompany the water. Definitely have a look-see.

Thanks all, will be drilling a hole today. Figure to drill it near the back and raise the front of the boat.

yeah, thats what i intend to do, but i was thinking should i drill thru the transom just above the bottom? I could install a brass sleeve into it and use a plug so it can be drained when nessecary

Great idea and good idea to open it every time you come back from an outing.

Would suggest you use a lot of sealer on the sleeve to get a good seal and keep water from seeping into the wood of the transom.

drilled for water today. Struck dry foam. I drilled a small hole thru the transom near the bottom of the boat. No water came out. Stuck a wire about a foot into the foam and it came out dry. I figured it was one of those air floatation jobs, but obviously the cavity is foam filled. Thanks for all the comments. Allen

Super.

Did you go to the old omc site and get some ideas about performance. While there, note where the anti-vent is located with respect to the hull. All I saw were an inch or so BELOW the bottom; You could see that when they were on a trailer and if you payed attention to some of the "underway" shots from behind the boat you couldn't see any of the plates except for the '77 200 hp hot dog .

One thing to note is the size of the droplets in the spray coming off the boats. The larger the droplets, the slower the speed at which they are made, and buddy there are some big ones, especially in their shots of their "Ski Twin" 33 hp......and note the skiiers are women.....99 lbs soaking wet d:) and most on 2 skiis.
