Hi! I own a 1958 Johnson super sea horse, 35 hp, model RDS 20. I have no water coming from telltale and engine overheats. Trying to get to impeller, but unbolting all 6 bolts holding foot to body dose not let the foot loose. I don't want to pry it out. Am I missing something? Also, looking for a service or parts manual. That would help! Thanks for any info!

You have to remove the cover off the rear of the midsection. Goes from the motor hood down to the water line. A whole bunch of phillips head screws. An impact screwdriver sure helps because they are pretty tight. Once you get that off, you will see a large bolt holding the gearcase at the rear.

Also, you have to remove the square access plate off the side of the midsection and the second plate inside from the first. Inside all that is a shift rod connector. Take one bolt out of that. When you put it back together, use a flashlight to look in and make very sure the notch in the shift rod is perfectly aligned with the screw hole in the shift rod connector. Failure to do that will cause the bolt to rub on the edge of the notch and will wipe the threads off the bolt every time. Then it falls out 5 miles out in the lake and you have no shift.
