Creating a signature

I am trying to create a signature with my boat info in it and I can't get it to work. Is there some secret to doing it or do you need a certain number of posts?

Go to the "my user area".
Click on edit sigs.
Type your info in the box and click the "use bbcode" bullet.

I wasn't using the bbcode.
