Need to replace the ignition switch on my '96 48HP Johnson. Can anyone help me with a part #? Thanx for any help you can provide.

5005800 for the switch. About $30.00...

Thanx Rick but don't think thats it. Found that part on Ebay but it has the snap on connectors. Mine is a 6 terminal screw-in type terminals.

Part number 175974 which has been superseeded with part number 5005801(Different than the 5005800) is for 1996 and up...

Not sure about that one. There was a change in wiring in 1996 and a new switch was incorporated. All I can suggest is the factory number...5005801..Others may know for sure..

Hmmm...5005801 is plug in connectors also. The motor is a 1996 but the boat is a 1985. Wonder if maybe the previous owner used his existing control box from the original motor although I have no idea what was originally on the boat. Guess I will take it apart and see if I can find a part #. Thanx for the input so far Rick

The link you posted is for a generic replacement switch. It should do to replace just about any 3 pos push to choke switch. I just replaced mine on my '82 tiara, but i had a 4 pos swtch.

I actually bought a three pos by accident and open the package before I realized my mistake. I'm selling it on ebay right now - but it's the 420381-1.

Well turns out the control box was pre 19996 and the switch was 508180. Got one on Ebay and installed it this morning. All is good with the world again. Thanx for the help fellas.
