I am attempting to reupholster my boat and am having a problem removing the shift lever from the side panel of the boat. It seems to be mounted from the outside, but I can't see the screws and I can't figure out how to pop anything off to get to screws. Any help would be appreciated.

A picture would help.

Many of the single lever controls have a decorative cap over the bolt that holds it on. Pop the cap & you have access to the bolt.

Pop "throttle only" button off, there is a nut in there (5/8 if I remember..? ), put into gear a to dente, look at where the hand connects to the housing, there is a little groove in there is an allen set screw underneath. Undo that, pop it out and disconnect trim wires.

Thanks! What exactly do you mean by a to dente?

Im sorry I had a brain fart, I meant detent.

The groove in the handle should line up with the location of the set screw right about where you advanced from idle in gear (this is just roughly, you will see).

Thanks a lot. I will try that tomorrow. The nut and set screw both just hold that shift lever on?

Yup, im a little foggy, but if I do remember right, put it in full forward, pop the throttle only button out, take nut off, and then bring the throttle back till you see the set screw and take that off. Thats it.

Wakeboarder, My Merc side mount control also has screws under the plastic square panel (about 2" X2" Square), under the control arm.
