Can you find the missing number in the pattern?

1,4,27,256,_

5,15,25,35,45,50,51,_

2,3,4,6,6,9,8,_

I think I have the last one, but the first two have me stumped.

The first is definitely 3125 and I think the second is 52.

(and hopefully you got 12 for the third)

How did you get those?

Yes, 12 for the third one.

Re: My sons 5th grade math homework

Well on the first one breaks down to 11, 22, 33, 44, and thus 55 or 3125.<P>

For the second one, starting at 0, that is every number containing the numeral 5:
5,15,25,35,45,50,51, then 52 (and then 53,54,55,56,57,58,59,65,etc..)

Re: My sons 5th grade math homework

I wasnt thinking "powers" for 5th grade. Guess I need to not try to dumb it down.

Makes sense on the second one.

Thanks a ton.

I think starting with the 2, every other numer you add 2, starting with the 3, every other number you at 3.

Soooo, Why are they teaching math puzzels ? You only need to know this $#!+ if you have to help your kids with math homework ?

Re: My sons 5th grade math homework

These "puzzles" are only about math on the surface. Math is just the vehicle, critical thinking is the goal. Solutions to problems (math and other) are sometimes simpler than they seem, sometimes not the obvious, and always require thought. There are life lessons hidden in those math puzzles...

Puzzels are a combo of math and recognizing patterns.

Both are important in science and statistics.

Luckily my son is a wiz at math, just not to good on reading. Getting better though.

Why can't they hide a life lesson in a pretty picture? Danged old stinky scientists.

So what happened to 50? Is it chopped liver? It does have a 5 in it.
