I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant. I need to change the Automative Transmissio filter. I also have a Haynes manual for the 1995 -2000 Galant. I looked at the book and it seemed like this was a simple task and much like other cars I have worked on. When I ordered the filter I noticed it didn't look just like the picture in the Haynes, but it was pretty close so I ordered it. I got under my car today and could not find anyway to drain the transaxle pan. The Haynes shows it as a horizontal pan and in my car it is definitely mounted vertically and does not have the drain plug the picture shows. Has anyone ever done this? Do I just remove the pan mounting bolts and let the fluid run out in a mess? I guess I am going to have to get real shop manual, but I would like to get this done now. I am 60k over the normal change mileage. Any Mitsu owners out there?
Thanks

Re: Galant Transmission

just remove the pan and seal it up with some quality automotive silicone

Re: Galant Transmission

Alot of pans lack drain holes,,,, common practice.

If you are 60K past the miles for the trans I would absolutely find a mitsu mechanic and talk with them. Some people have changed their fluid only to find the tranny starts to slip.

Re: Galant Transmission

check your service manual some of the import trannys have to be dissembled to replace the filter, if it is in the pan it's a very simple task, do not use silicone stick the gasket to the pan with a little weather strip adhesive, tighten the bolts to only where you see the gasket start to compress or the gasket will split and leak,
