I have a 1983 40hp evinrude that i have done a carb rebuild and a fuel pump rebuild. new tanks(old line though).new plugs.new coils, condensers, reset points.I finally got it to idle nicely and accelerate nicely but when i get to just about full throttle it runs great but then the last bit of throttle it seem to lose some rpm and bog down abit. If i throttle back down the rpm will return to where it was. Also now when i start the motor it lets out a back fire through the exhaust.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: NO WOT

Backfire through the exhaust is typical of running lean.

I suspect your WOT issue may be the same thing. Your old hose may not be able to support WOT fuel flow.

Also, did you ":Synch. and link"?

Re: NO WOT

Sorry I am anewbie to this all.I am planning to replace the hose but what other things would cause a lean condition to cause the backfire.By the way it did not backfire until after i replaced the plugs and put a new idle jet neddle in.thanks for the help in advance
