If my scanner was working I would
post the page that says
10/30 W or 20/40W.
Now this is from when they first came out..............
Same as engine oil, per DonS......................
Do you run straight 30W in your block?
I have run 10/30W for 26 years and know what
NO Problems.............
Well, I have the same info in my ancient Owners Manual too. Things change. Oil gets better. There was not much choice years ago, and sure you can run engine oil too. BUT, these are gears shearing the oil, and gears don't need detergents, added polymers designed for hot running engines, etc. Old gear oils with massive amounts of sulphur ran hundred thousand miles in cars with no problem. Its been replaced with the engineering of synthetics. 10wt (thats the base stock of all 10-30's-40's) is just that . Too light. Gear oils were 80-90wt. Cars/trucks would still be using old 80-90wt if it weren't for the sulphur issue, and friction, which they needed to reduce for meeting CAFE standards.
Your questions answered...
"says10/30 W or 20/40W"
When was the last time you saw 20-40w sitting on a shelf for sale?
"Same as engine oil, per DonS"
Believe Don was quoting from the old Manual too, but as he works on this stuff daily, I think he prefers 40wt in the motor
"Do you run straight 30W in your block?"
Nope, straight 40wt....
"I have run 10/30W for 26 years and know what NO Problems.."
Now you know why we call them bulletproff.....
