The best way to keep them out is to keep the water out, why do you have water, is it a wooden boat?

no water would be best but there are for sale rings that you can throw in water for exactly what you describe. they're normally used for ditches or standing water but seems like they might work for you and not pollute. i've seen em home crepot and the like.

There ought to be a chemical you could use that wouldn't harm the environment , but would kill the larve. Throw a cup of bleach or ammonia in there every week? How about a biodegradeable marine cleaner? If you did it before you leave the boat for on-shore activities, it should keep 'em down.

All good suggestions. Would the rings hurts the gelcoat? its a 30 ft boat so the bilge has a few spots where the pumps dont get it all. plus its always in the water. Im always on the lookout for pollutionists so i dont like to hurt my waters as well. ill look into those ring things! thanks

A little bit of oil will do the trick as it floats on top of any water.

lol on the lizards!! there are millions of them here! ill stick to the larvae killer i think, i dont need an oilly mess! plus the film will be sucked up into the pumps as the water is only about an inch deep and pumped into the surrounding waters. i know it aint much oil but it dont take alot to stain the hull on the outside! wait maybe thats some new bottom cote!

Re: bilge water in cabin cruiser

I do not see any recent questions on this website but will give it a try, today is Dec. 13, 2009. My problem is as follows, I have a 1999 Larson Cabrio 254 with a Volvo engine and outdrive, it has been a great boat with zero issues. BUT, this week after a trip of about one hour I had a lot of water in the bilge, a lot. I live in Florida and have the boat in a lift in a canal so it is stored out of water. After I emptied the bilge I put the boat down into the water and as soon as the boat reached the level where the water was half way up the outdrive the water started to come into the boat. There is no damage of any sort and from inside the engine compartment I cannot see exactly where the water is entering. The only thing back there does not seem as though it should be leaking water. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you. email me at sailorbox2@hotmail.com.
