I believe the solenoid is bad. (When you try to raise the motor it justs makes a clicking sound) I need to know if anyone can give the part number and where to buy one. Does this have to be a boat part or can I get it at the auto parts store. Thanks for your help!

I'm pretty sure you have two solenoids. One for up, one for down. Switch them to make sure that is your problem.

Re: 1975 135rude trim/tilt solenoid

I am pretty sure there is only one??? I will look this afternoon. I think the wires that come from the remote and the battery only go to one solenoid and then to the trim/tilt motor,, but i will look. If there is one or two, do i have to buy marine parts or can i go to the auto store? I also can't find a part number? I don't have my manual with me.. thanks

You have only one solenoid on that year engine. Disconnect the TNT motor, and jump it to the battery. If the solenoid will click, the problem could well be in the motor. You could get the solenoid at an auto store if need be, just be sure it has the two small terminal's. If you use a auto solenoid, youwill have to ground the solenoid body.

Ok... I got a new solenoid and it didn't fix the problem. I guess it is in the motor. How do I jump it to the battery directly to check it? thanks

There are three wire's to the motor, disconnect these wire's. The black wire goes to ground. The blue wire touched to positive will raise the engine, the green wire touched to positive will lower the engine.

Re: warning low oil audible siren

Have 1992 Renken with 1993 150 Johnson Ocean
has an audible alarm if oil or temperature goes south,
I've replaced the water pump and keep tabs on the automatic oiler and it's working well I suspect it could be a faulty alarm I need a part name or part # so I could replace it.

Commander,
The three wires in the main cable are black, red and blue. Then another black wire is banded to the outside of the cable. I couldn't get it to go up or down???

Basically this happened overnight. One day it worked the next it didn't. I remember the last time I had it out, the tilt down was kind of acting up. I would have to hit it a couple time to work. There are two trim/tilt switches on the boat and both did the same thing. I am lost???

Sounds like how mine acted when the connection was bad. Clean the connections in the junction box with a wire brush then apply a little di-electric grease, also make sure all of your battery connections are clean and tight. My 78 would do that exact thing periodically and I had to go to the junction box and wiggle wires to get it to work again.

I was way off here! I was thinking of the early unit's, but where was that solinoid located that you replaced?

Kevin needs to diconnect the assembly and jump the T&T motor with the red and black and then the blue and black at the pump motor. If the motor works, check the wiring all of the way to the switch. With both sides not working, check the black ground wires first.

I jumped it with red and big black and blue and big black last nigt. I just wasn't sure what the little black wire was banded to the outside of the main cable? So since it didn't work is it the motor? I also checked for power at the switch. Up all three wires lit up. Down only two wires lit up. this was on both switches...
