I am restoring a 1979 Evinrude 115, the motor is Silver/White/Blue. After reading around this forum I have a few questions about repainting the motor:

1) Where can I find all of the paint I need? I see that iBoats sells Tempo paints which I have read is the way to go but they don’t seem to have all of the colors I need. I am in North Texas of that helps
2) What are some cost effective alternatives to Tempo paints (if any)
3) I am told the colors I need are as follows Blue 178548, White 172748, Silver 172793, and Primer 172757. I assume I would need some zinc chromate primer also as I have removed the paint down to bare metal? Also what type of primer should I use on the fiberglass and plastic parts of the engine?
4) Does anyone know where I can get a set of factory decals for the motor

Any other advice on refinishing the motor would be greatly appreciated.

79Rude115..........The numbers on the "Blue" paint have changed to 777178. My local dealer tells me he does not have the paint in stock but can get it. Except for the blue. He'll have to do some more research and see if he can come up with it. The cost per spray can is $7.99. As far as the decals. They've not been available since '86. But, he did give me the number to Ken Cook as a source to begin your search................ (414)466-6060 ........... Good luck!!!!.....................ALAN

Re: Decals and Paint

Here's a link to sources for Tempo paints. The retailers have to buy a volume to stock it, so no one carries all of the colors.

If you check around you will find them, or someone willing to order for you.

Copy the link to your browser without the quotation marks:

Also, try here: http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg..._id=217339&list_time=1158698975&view_id=40370

Re: Decals and Paint

As far as the decals are conerned...

I contacted the gentleman mentioned about but he says the manual shows no decals for a 1979 Evinrude 115 so I need some pictures, really good pictures with a ruler just under the decals from multiple angles. My decals are too far gone to use as a reference so if someone could help with some pics that would be greatly appreciated. The 140 (and I believe the 85 but not sure) should have the same decal set with the exception of the number so those would work also.

Re: Decals and Paint

If you can't find someone to make them, this is basically what you need to do...

Get some vector artwork of the logo/design (Adobe Illustrator, .eps, Corel Draw etc... NOT .jpg/.bmp/.gif/.png etc...)
brandsoftheworld.com perhaps

Have that modified if needed and take the file to a sign shop that does cut vinyl. Tell the colors and dimensions you need and they'll hook you up.

I'll be doing this for my '69 after I feel it's mechanically sound.

Re: Decals and Paint

I have had mixed results with spray paints. If you have a friendly body shop guy, he can computer scan a part you take him from your motor and do a near perfect match with the paint job. He can finish the job with a nice clear coat. The same finish as a car and very durable.l did this with my 1988 Rude. By the time you add up multible cans of paint, the price isn't that much difference. You might have to take him to a ball game or something.............

I do some computer/network work for a guy that owns a body shop here in town. When the time comes I'll have my cover all prepped and I'll drop it off at his shop. He'll just shoot it with some white next time he's painting a car.

281310 is the p/n for the decal set. Sure it has been discontinued years ago. It is a good looking set, with the red, white and blue. In addition to the decal set, there are some medallions and logos that are also attached to the cover. Also probably NLA. You can always try Seaway marine in the Seattle area-they handle obsolete OMC parts. The Evinrude and 115 logos are stamped aluminum. You can repaint the white on them, There is a front applique also. The front applique is different for the 140 and there is a special rear applique for the 140 only. You should be able to access this parts diagram from the brp.com website.

Re: Decals and Paint

The decal set is on the way to me now. Thanks RPJS - the guy you referred me too ended up doing a great job.

I still cannot find the paint - I was hoping to order it online so if anyone knows of a place I can do that please point me in the right direction.
