Engines are 2000 225 Evinrude FICHTS. Have had little to no problems with engines until about 1 month ago and have 500+ hours on each.

The last 2 trips offshore I have run into an issue on my port engine. First time after about an hour of running the engine at cruise, the engine completely shut off while running. Engine wouldn't start afte this happenned (starter does not even turn over, but goes through startup sequence with lights on dash). Engine then started up after 5 minutes of waiting and ran fine the rest of the trip. The same thing happenned 2 more times the next trip after running an hour or so again. I have run the engine one other time, but not for more than 20 minutes at cruising speed. Mechanic did not see any codes in computer and says there is nothing he can do.

My mechanic recently replaced the starter and flywheel in this engine. Not sure if he screwed something up by doing so or totally independent.

Maybe when engine heats up it is causing computer failure or something else to fail?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

What would the starter have to do with an engine cutting out while running at 4000 RPMs and then taking 5 minutes before starter would re-engage?

You have an overheating ECM. Could be a bad ECM or clogged water system. Call the folks at www.dfitechnologies.com and get a tech to help you work thru the problem.

I had a similiar problem with my 2000 200 port engine. Also found a loose GROUND WIRE to the ECM.

Best,

Tom
