CITGO petroleum is owned by chavez(in case you didn't know)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I knew the venezualan govt owned part of CITGO, but was NOT aware until today, that is 100% owned by it.
I just cut up my Citgoo gas cards. NOT ONE MORE PENNY, even if i run outta gas!!!

Now I need a new card... What are your recommendations for a replacement card?

Re: CITGO

wow, that news is like 20 years old.
actually PDVSA owns Citgo not Chavez.
but it does appear that PDVSA is divesting itself of Citgo refineries in the US.
if chavez wins the dec elections I foresee the oil going to china aboard chinese built oil tankers instead of across the gulf of mexico.
with no PDVSA refineries there will be no compelling reason to sell it to the US.
ya think the loss of about 1/5 our supply will hurt? will it be reason enough to attack VE?
I dont like the US latin american policy,or lack thereof, and I sure dont like the Chavez govt policy but he was democratically elected,3 times or so, so he is the man Bush must smile and deal with but Bush wont, Bush is as bad as Hugo about insults.

Re: CITGO

BTW... Even thought Citgo is soley owned by the Venezualian (sp?) government, Citgo's headquarters is (clap-clap-clap) deep in the heart of Texas (Houston to be exact).. AND, Citgo employs about 4000 AMERICANS....

AND then there are the AMERICAN retailers that sell Citgo fuels, which employ more AMERICANS.....

As for recomendations on a card....... Use Discover.... I believe I'm getting either 2% or 5% cash back on gas purchases.....

Re: CITGO

Citgo is the American subsidiary of the state-run oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela SA.

Boycotts of oil companies have been tried on numerous occasions and, so far, without measurable results. Citgo is Venezuelan owned but the majority of the people who would be impacted by a successful boycott are mostly Americans. In fact, I wasn't sugjesting one.
This is personal, and in reaction to hearing that fruitcake's speach, followed by the news (to me) he owns citgoo.
And it was a serious request for a new card, lookin for a good deal.
But since we are on the subject, I do hope every person on the plannet thumbs their nose at this madman by making him sell it to china.

I stopped buying citgo. The needs of the few ( who can find petrol to sell me elsewhere ), dont out weigh the needs or principals of others.

Re: CITGO

I haven't bought Citgo gas in over a year in protest. I hear that they are closing a substantial number of stations in this country next year. I assume that we'll still buy their gas marketed under other brands as we do now.

Re: CITGO

What a silly argument.

As long as there is a strong world-wide market for their oil, they should not particularly care who it is sold to, as long as they get market prices for it.

The real problem is people like Chavez can use the oil revenue to say whatever he wants on the world stage, and use his oil revenue to look like a hero to his own people that keep him in power.

It is the same thing that Iran does, or any other oil rich third world country does.

As long as we do not develop alternatives to their oil, we will maintain the status quo of allowing these two bit dictators to have a voice on the world stage.

Frankly, if this is really the all out clash of civilizations that we have been warned about, we would do something to lessen our demand for oil, and stop financing our enemies. Put a $2.00/gal war tax on oil products, and perhaps a tax break to developing alternatives, especially those alternatives we can market world wide.

That would get their attention!

China has lots of US dollars.

They are, after all, financing our national debt!

If Chavez is so worried about us, why doesn't he sell his gas here like he does at home??

Oh, and I forgot to add, I try to support SUNOCO and BP as much as possible... their oil comes from friendly places.

As much as I want to buy from the "American" oil company, I don't want to deal with the Pakastanis that the distributor has imported to run all of his stations.

There must be some misunderstanding ,PW. Please re-read, that this is not another argument, nor is it a debate on anything.. What (if any) fuel card do ytou use, and do you like it?
I would go back to the days of paying at the register, but I have no time for standing in that line --- sometimes it reminds me of the DMV... Oh great!!!
NOW I have that silly Primus song about the DMV stuck in my head!

Re: CITGO

both BP and sunnoco have fields in the orinoco and maricabo areas.
Chavez is using his oil money to keep getting elected.
so far its been 3 times since 1998, the last one was watched over by the carter foundation and a european union foundation and declared free of votor fraud.
cant get much more democratic than that.
what I see most likly,as oil is traded on a global commodity market, is china will buy it,mark it up and sell it to the US across the gulf and buy oil closer to china.
its 3 days in a tanker Vs 41 days. you do the math.
the chinese crew may run on rice and fish heads but that tanker sucks oil, lots of oil.
you wont find a lot of folks outside caracas that hold him in hero status, but at least some of the poorest now have access to subsidized groceries and free medical.
not much by our standards but a heck of a lot better than they had under the last president.
until I started fishing some of the outlying areas of venezuela I just thought I grew up poor.
but we never lacked for food medical attention or dental care.
from El Manteco on lake guri the closest medical clinic is 1 hour drive, the closest hospital about 2 1/2 hour drive, the closest dentist is 2 hours away. there is no such thing as air ambulance unless you pre pay and they have enough light to make the round trip.
so Chavez is well liked in some areas for what he has done and despised in many areas for the same reasons.
I do think its funny that some numbers of the cuban teachers and doctors sent by castro have "defected" to VE.
they say life in VE is a lot better than cuba.

I still think that UN speech by Chavez cemented in front of the world what a buffon he is.

Could not help but laugh at:

"Chavez is using his oil money to keep getting elected." Darn that sounds like another country I heard of and their pres. is stupid and sorry as Chavez.
