Wow! How does this stuff happen? I mean, the ocean is a BIG piece of water. What's with the bumper boats routine? Do the waves end up pushing them together or is everyone just plain reckless? ...or a little of both?

Yeah everyone is fine, i hurt my neck a little from whiplash but i'm cool .... it is a track race where you have to go round the floating beacons as in the pics, too many boats at one time trying to make the cut ends up like this ..... luckily I carried on and won the race ..... I went over the beacon so that counts as going around it .... hahaha

The white on the "Other guys" helmet, does it indicate rookie driver?

Nope .... everyone kinda do their own thing with branding and sponsors and colours, there are rookies and pro's all mixed together but no way of indicating how much experience each have ....

Here in the States a white X on the helmet designates a rookie driver. They gotta wear it for 15 heats in Stock Outboard division. I remember the day I got to peal my X off the ol' brain bucket and run "in cognito". It was actually between heats that I hit the 15 mark. I ended up winning two races that day in two different classes!

Most specactular wreck I had was a solo effort. I came out of a turn after getting absolutely drenched by the lead boat's rooster tail. I couldn't see all that well due to the water on my visor, so as I laid the boat out for the straightaway I aimed for what I thought was the turn bouy. Turned out to be an orange spectator boat off past the course - about 10-degrees left of where I wanted to be headed. I over-corrected to the right and the boat didn't like that much. The bow came way up and the boat did a bit of a pirouette on the transom as it spit me out at about 60mph. A little duct tape and some help from my pit crew and I had the boat patched and the motor dried out & running in time for the second heat... The guy who was on my right and to the rear of me as I came out of the turn watched as I headed off in the wrong direction and then saw the whole flipping, spinning (3 times by his count) wreck and deemed it a thing of beauty. All I remember were bubbles. Lots and lots of bubbles...

So is that what you call "elimination heat"?

Hahaha nice one Scott .... took my experiment toy out this past weekend ... 2.6meter inflatable (8.5 foot) (as in my avatar) with a 70hp fully modified yamaha with 16pitch stainless steel racing prop ... I added my transom extention and everything, motor was so powerful it pushed my boat right out the water and ran like crazy (I actually got scared), think I got about 90 mph at WOT then went over a wave and pulled my 2 pontoons out the sockets .... luckily the motor didn't go under and got help from other boats to save me .. hahaha .... was fun but now back to the drawing board .... more reinforcements on the transon and pontoons and maybe adding a bit more width as the motor is a bit top heavy ......

The drive ratio .... i'm not a 100% sure, I will have to ask my macanic as it is fitted with a bullet racing gearbox he tuned up for me ... ..... I almost did fall out hahahaha, my feet came out of the foot straps and then gave me a bit of whiplash .... all good now ... all part of the fun ... :)
