Hi all it's me again. Well I am getting ready to get it out in the river tomorrow to test things out. I put in the new stat and ran and so far ok except for the temp gauge. It reads 180 steady thermostat cyles and it drops 10* then back up to 180*. I feel the sender or gauge caould be bad. I took a plastic container and while it was runing on muffs I held it under the exhaust (spent cooling water) and had a thermometer in it and it showed a constant 120* I would guess there would be some cooling after leaving the engine I might guess 20* which would make it 140* which is what the stat is. Does this sound logical?
If not how can I test the water temp?

Thanks again

I'd stick in a new sender first...

remove the sender wire and ground it to the block. if the gauge pegs, it's good and the sender is bad. if there's no movement, the gauge is bad.
